You call state your name and company, and that you'd like to speak with Mr. X in the yyyy department please. When you get him, name and company again and state your intent. That will give you all the clout you need and get you past any receptionist. If it was not a business inquiry that involves your place of employment, and was more for your own benefit/interest, its natural you'd be treated like a retail customer contacting a wholesale company. No?
